WINTERVILLE—Over the past six years, a partnership between the Pitt Community College Foundation and Greenville’s Welcome Federal Credit Union has expanded opportunities for PCC students through scholarships, internships and employment.
Since 2020, the WFCU Scholarship has provided $1,000 awards to six students representing a variety of Pitt health sciences and college transfer programs. The funding was used toward the cost of tuition, fees, books and other educational expenses.
The most recent scholarship recipient was Charity Littlefield, who earned an associate degree in Accounting and Finance: Financial Services from PCC in December 2025. A nontraditional student who describes her “superpower” as “being a mom,” Littlefield combined her love of math, working with numbers and preparing taxes to pursue a career in accounting and financial services.
“My dream, for as long as I can remember, has been to be a mom. Well, I achieved that dream, and I now have two children, ages 16 and 12,” Littlefield said. “I decided that I needed and wanted something more just for me. I wanted to be challenged and fulfilled at the end of the day while also helping to support my family financially.”
Nadine Heine, WFCU’s marketing/business development manager, said the credit union is proud to support student growth, career development and the local community. She added that WFCU values its strong partnership with PCC and its role in helping students gain real-world experience.
One example is Savannah Remley, who completed a Business Administration degree at Pitt this spring after beginning her professional journey through a WFCU internship.
“Through this partnership, students gain meaningful, hands-on experience, as seen with Savannah Remley, who began her journey with WFCU through a Pitt Community College internship,” Heine said. “[She] now serves members daily while continuing her education in business and accounting.”
To apply for the Welcome Federal Credit Union Scholarship at PCC, students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. They may be enrolled full- or part-time.
